According to the review website Engadget, eBay is updating its Android and iOS applications, allowing sellers to simplify the listing process by scanning product barcodes. While eBay has supported barcode scanning for some time, the previous focus of this feature was to assist buyers in comparing products. However, this new feature is designed for sellers. After scanning a product's barcode, it automatically populates the product's listing information.

If you have the packaging of a product you want to sell, you can scan the QR code on it and provide details about the product's condition. Once eBay confirms the product, it will automatically fill in the basic product description, upload inventory photos, and suggest pricing based on historical data and predictive analysis. If you don't have a barcode, you can search and select the product name accordingly. The information filled in automatically can be edited, so you won't be stuck with eBay's suggestions.

Engadget states that this feature is aimed at "new sellers who may not be very familiar with how eBay's platform works." This indicates that in today's e-commerce market, where apps, voice assistants, and on-demand delivery services are increasingly prevalent, eBay is still looking to expand its customer base. While eBay's new barcode scanning technology may not be a one-size-fits-all solution, it is undoubtedly useful and time-saving for sellers who have already packaged their products.
